There are many people for whom extra weight has been a lifelong struggle. Angie H. is one of those people. At 26 years old, after her first baby, she saw a picture of herself at 211 pounds. Only being 5’1”, this was a lot of weight, and she wondered why no one told her how big she’d become.  It was that photograph that sparked her journey to health and wellness. Determined to turn it around, she began restricting her calories and exercising a lot. It took her 10 years, but she lost around 60 pounds, despite some weight loss creeps and plateaus. “I never had a problem exercising.  It was always about the food for me.  Even when I thought I was doing well, I was slipping.” In April of 2015, she noticed the weight coming back on, so she tried yet another restrictive diet, and did well, initially. However, after a few months, the more restrictive she became, the less effective the same program worked. “I eventually started to put pounds back on.  I thought I was eating clean and portion-controlled, but I still felt tired and bloated and couldn’t understand why.” The minute she heard Chalene say, ‘you think you’re eating clean but you still feel bad…’ she knew she had to join the Diet Beta Test.  “I wasn’t doing it to lose weight necessarily, although it was a nice side effect.  I just wanted to feel better.  And I’m so glad I took that step!”

One of Angie’s “aha” moments occurred during one of the lessons on sleep. She recognized a character trait in herself she’d never pinpointed before, and in doing so, she has begun the process of restoring her sleep to a healthy pattern and amount now that she knows how critical it is to overall wellness and overcoming weight loss resistance. “I’d always refused naps and getting enough sleep because, in my mind, it was nonproductive time. I used to see it as lazy. I’m a work in progress here because I have a stressful job and four kids, but I am finally giving myself permission to rest, relax and sleep.” She’d always heard that sleep was important, but because it’s talked about superficially nearly everywhere, it became like white noise, and she wasn’t inspired to change. However, like all the deep dive lessons in the One3One Diet, the information was given in a way where it just clicked. The lesson had depth, relatability, and science Angie hadn’t ever heard before. That’s one of the magic ingredients…. distilling expert info to inspire a lifestyle-overhaul.

 

Angie has a long list of improvements that aren’t scale-related. Some people don’t count these victories as heavily, but Angie does (which we love because it’s #grateful!). “I absolutely feel more productive at work.  I spend less time resolving issues because I feel like I can think more clearly. Plus, the bonus of not being constantly distracted by hunger/food allows me to get more done in the same amount of time. I feel like I have more energy all around.  I don’t have pain in my joints every day.  I can walk up and down the steps without knee pain.  My tennis elbow is gone.  I feel lighter, less bloated, and more comfortable in my own skin.” Angie has not only kept the weight off, but she continues to drop, even though she finished the program.

When asked what she’d say to others contemplating their own journey, Angie says, “This is the most amazing opportunity to learn a lot of really solid information and to chart your own course through it; to learn how to fix yourself without medicine and without toxic interventions.  However, I don’t believe that it’s for everyone.  If you have no desire to spend time learning and trying to make changes in your life that will positively impact your health, then it’s of no value to you.  I have found there are some people that just want a set of rules to follow, even though most one-size-fits-all programs fail because we are not all made the same. That’s sad to me because I am a “why” person.  If I don’t know the why, then I have a hard time just blindly following.  It’s so much easier to implement new concepts when you really know why you are doing what you’re doing.”

Kellye H. found the One3One Diet after exhausting every single diet out there on the market, literally. If there was a restrictive or pre-programmed plan available, Kellye tried it, and failed. “At first I was scared because this plan had fewer rules. I was used to previous diets telling me what was good and what was bad, how many macros I needed, or specific calories per meal, and this program didn’t do that.” The two major hallmarks of One3One: science and support, lead her to finally experience her first breakthrough. “Ashley Sweeney and all the RDs on staff helped so much. There was no guessing because Ashley broke down complicated subjects into easy to understand lessons, and the staff of RDs answered questions in the community forum every day. We were never alone.”

Kellye benefitted greatly from the unique lessons taught by Dr. Mcayla Sarno, a psychotherapist who specializes in brain training, mindset and eating disorders. A longtime binge eater, Kellye felt like the lessons spoke directly to her, and that they were as valuable as actual one on one therapy. Like many people who binge eat to numb feelings of fear and pain, Kellye experienced a childhood trauma that set her up for a lifelong struggle with food. “I’m no longer a slave to food to numb my feelings. I’ve learned to FEEL what I’m experiencing, so food doesn’t have to be my coping mechanism. I have freedom I’ve never had before. I always thought I was destined to be someone who couldn’t control her eating, but I now know that just isn’t true. I’m finally free from my unhealthy relationship with food.”

Kellye attributes her success to adopting the habits of healthy people, and sticking with them. They may sound simple, but if they were, everyone would do them (and we know, not everyone does). It takes hearing the “why” over and over, and from the experts, to make routines a habit. It was the engaging repetition that helped it all stick. So now, Kellye drinks water all day, eats intuitively, and doesn’t turn to food for emotional comfort. She’s lost 55 pounds and is still losing! She says that other programs have you blindly follow a one-size-fits-all approach. People are so desperate for results, they often dive right in before asking one simple question: Am I like everyone else, or maybe, just maybe, am I designed as different as a snowflake? When you get right down to it, of course we’re all different. Our genders, hormones, heredity, age, gut health, metabolism and so much more, are completely different. So why, then, would it make sense to eat like other people and expect the same results? These questions become crystal clear as a student of the One3One Diet. But until you experience it for yourself, you simply don’t know the right questions to ask, because no one has ever created a program like this.

Shamra H. is a wife and mother who not only lost 50 pounds, but got control of her life thanks to the One3One Diet. Her non-scale victories include improving the hypothyroidism and PCOS she’s suffered from for the past 11 years, “I finally feel like myself again and that is priceless.” Both disorders contribute to weight loss resistance, but each carry with it a whole host of side effects that make everyday life painful, both mentally and physically.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) isn’t fully understood, making it difficult to cure. The symptoms include: acne, weight gain, infertility, thinning hair, depression and diabetes. Doctors often treat it with high doses of meds designed to control blood sugar to regulate the hormones that are out of whack and causing the syndrome. As discussed in several One3One lessons, hormones can, and often do, regulate once someone implements a proper eating protocol.

Hypothyroidism cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. Symptoms include weight gain, brain fog, dry skin, chills and depression, and finding the right balance of medications is a long and delicate process that weighs heavily on most patients because they’re often a human guinea pig for at least a year, bouncing from hypo to hyper in their desperate attempt to just “feel normal.”

Shamra says the difference between the One3One program and everything else she’s tried over the years is the science. “I just couldn’t get enough!” Dr. Bush and Dr. Amen really resonated with her, and as a result, she’s adopted daily habits that she’s 

kept for several months, all of which contribute to her sustained weight loss. Intermittent fasting, daily morning walks, 3-4 water bottles per day and daily personal development keep the weight off and her previous symptoms at bay. But perhaps the best part for Shamra is the newfound energy she has for her 6-year-old son.

While she never set out to inspire people, Shamra did just that with her drastic weight loss. She went through the program with her two best friends, and inspired her sisters and husband to take the leap. “As a lifer, I just knew I had to be part of the program, and as luck would have it, I got into the first round.” When asked how she got through the tough times, she says, “my husband was my rock, and any time I needed to avoid temptation, he was there.”

In terms of life after One3One, Debi says, “I have completely changed the way I look at food. I am much more aware of what I put into my body. I don’t eat just to eat anymore; I eat to fuel my body. I have much more energy in the afternoon as well. I have completely gotten over my constant sweet tooth cravings. In fact, things that I used to eat like honey, cookies, or creamer in my coffee are too sweet for me now, so it’s easy to say no to them.”

Debi’s hope is to become certified as a One3One coach so that she can put all her personal training clients through the program. She wants them to experience her newfound sense of power over her choices and mental state. “I don’t feel like I ever fail on this diet, even if I cheat a little because I customize my plan and what works for me and my body.”
